Welcome to the Ponsanooth Parish Neighbourhood Plan!

The Ponsanooth Neighbourhood Plan has been submitted to Cornwall Council!

The Ponsanooth Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan has been updated and revised following careful consideration of all comments received during the recent community and statutory consultation period.

The revised Plan was approved by Ponsanooth Parish Council at its meeting on 9 March 2026, when the Council resolved that it should be submitted to Cornwall Council.

After final checks and proof-reading the Plan was formally submitted to Cornwall Council on 10 July 2026, marking an important next stage in the neighbourhood planning process.

You can see the Submitted Neighbourhood Plan and the supporting documents here: Submission Draft Documents – Ponsanooth Parish Neighbourhood Plan

What Happens Next?

Cornwall Council will now carry out the necessary legal and procedural checks before publishing the submitted Plan for a further period of public consultation. It will then proceed to independent examination. Subject to the examiner’s recommendations, local residents will be asked to vote on the Plan in a referendum. If supported, it will become part of the statutory Development Plan used in deciding planning applications within Ponsanooth Parish

We will keep everyone updated on progress throughout the year.

Thank you for your comments on the draft Plan!

The NDP Group would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who took the time at the end of last year to read the draft Plan and its policies, and to come along to one of the exhibitions at the Hall. We greatly appreciated all the comments and feedback received.

As well as hearing from the community we also consulted a wide range of local and national organisations, groups and other stakeholders, including both statutory and non-statutory consultees.

It was very reassuring to see the majority of responses were positive and supportive across all the key themes in our Plan with 83% in favour of the plan, it’s aims and the policies that had been developed

What did we do to the plan following the feedback?

The comments received during the six-week consultation, from both residents and other consultees, were carefully reviewed by the Steering Group. This led to around 70 changes to the draft Plan, most of them additions, helping to bring it more closely into line with the views expressed.

It is important to remember that this is not the Plan of the NDP Group or of the Parish Council, it is your Plan. It has been prepared to reflect the community’s priorities, while also complying with national and local planning policy. Without a Plan, there is a real risk that the community’s priorities will not be delivered, or that other people’s priorities will be imposed on us instead.

This is why on behalf of the community we are looking to welcome growth in our Parish but on the community’s terms.

Thank you again for all your contributions!

Background to the Plan

The Plan will help to shape how the Parish changes up to 2030 and will be taken into account when planning applications are decided by Cornwall Council.

A local community team has worked on behalf of the Parish to draw up the
Neighbourhood Development Plan, based on feedback from several community surveys and evidence reports covering a variety of topics.

The Plan aims to:

  • Increase the amount of affordable housing for local people.
  • Protect our countryside, green spaces and heritage.
  • Influences the design of new buildings.
  • Help to tackle the climate crisis.
  • Be environmentally, economically and socially sustainable.
  • Help direct funding from development to deliver Parish priorities e.g.
better traffic calming/new paths and trails.
